Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a competitive exam for graduating students of Engineering, technology, architecture and Science in India. GATE 2027 will be conducted for 30 papers (including new Robotics & Automation – RA) in February 2027. DigiLocker is mandatory for Indian nationals. GATE 2027 Apply Online
For GATE 2027, all information related to the candidates will be available in a single GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Candidates have to register and fill the application via ONLINE mode ONLY.
Required Documents to Upload:
- Recent photograph (live photo may also be captured)
- Signature
- Valid photo ID (same original must be carried on exam day)
- Category certificate (SC/ST/PwD) for fee concession, and Dyslexia certificate if applicable
Academic marksheets (10th/12th/UG/PG) are not required for GATE registration. OBC-NCL and EWS candidates need not upload a category certificate for the application.
Identity Document Requirements
Enter the document number for ANY ONE of the accepted photo IDs (bring the same original on exam day):
- Aadhaar-UID (preferable)
- Passport
- PAN Card
- Voter ID
- Driving License
For foreign nationals: valid Passport, any other valid government-issued photo ID, or Driving License. College ID and Employee ID are not in the GATE 2027 accepted list.
No application form is available for sale anywhere. Apply only through GOAPS.

DigiLocker: Mandatory for Indian nationals. Create or update a verified DigiLocker account before applying. Address and DOB are fetched from DigiLocker/Aadhaar; the DigiLocker/Aadhaar photo is not used for the application.
Fee (per paper): Female/SC/ST/PwD ₹1,000 (₹1,500 extended) · Others ₹2,000 (₹2,500 extended). Two papers = double.

3. Application Fee
Application fee varies based on category, gender, and examination center. Payment can be made online through various payment gateways.
4. Examination Centers
GATE exam is conducted in various exam centres spread across different cities in India as well as abroad. From 2014, GATE examination has become purely a computer-based test (CBT).
